Resyna and Calm Tools

For a Sound Sensitive Child where the honest answer might be no.

Your child covers their ears at the vacuum, the hand dryer, and the school bell. Offering them an audio tool seems either exactly right or completely wrong, and you cannot tell which.

Why it works here

Why a calm and focus tool helps with for a sound sensitive child

Decreased sound tolerance is common in autism, which means an audio-based tool is genuinely not appropriate for every child. Knowing that up front, and knowing how to test it carefully, matters more than any benefit we could claim.

You will recognize this if

  • Your child reacts strongly to everyday sounds.
  • They remove headphones quickly whenever they are offered.
  • Unexpected sound produces a physical startle.
What the research says

A meta-analysis of 13,433 autistic individuals found roughly 41 percent currently experience decreased sound tolerance, so an audio tool being wrong for a given child is common rather than unusual.

The setup

How to set it up for a sound sensitive child

Takes about five minutes. Use it as written, or keep only the steps your family needs. A short setup that gets used beats a complete one that gets abandoned in week two.

  1. 1 Ask your child first and accept a no as a complete answer
  2. 2 Start at the lowest audible volume in a familiar quiet room
  3. 3 Use a speaker at a distance before trying anything on the head
  4. 4 Try thirty seconds rather than a full session
  5. 5 Watch for any covering, flinching, or withdrawal and stop immediately
  6. 6 Accept that this may not be the right tool, and use visual supports instead
The mistake most families make

Persisting because it is supposed to be calming overrides your child's own report of their experience, which is the thing you least want to teach them.

In the app

Built into the routine, not bolted onto it.

The Resyna and Calm Tools lives inside the same routine your child already follows, so a sound sensitive child is a step with a visible length rather than a separate tool somebody has to remember to open.

  • Attach it to any step in any routine
  • Works for pre-readers, gestalt language processors, and AAC users
  • Same setup at home, at school, and in therapy

Common questions

About a sound sensitive child

Is an audio tool safe for a sound sensitive child?
It may simply not suit them, and that is a legitimate outcome. Start extremely quietly, keep it brief, and stop at the first sign of discomfort.
What should we use instead?
Visual supports, movement, deep pressure, and reducing sensory input often work better. Sound is one option among several rather than the answer.
Could it help with sound sensitivity itself?
We make no claim of that. Sound tolerance work belongs with an audiologist or occupational therapist, not with a wellness tool.

Resyna and VizyPlan's Calming Frequency are wellness tools designed to support relaxation. They are not a medical device and are not medical advice. They do not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition, and they are not a substitute for care from a qualified professional. Start with just 2 to 5 minutes at a comfortable volume and build up gradually. If you feel any discomfort, dizziness, or unease, stop right away. If you are pregnant, or you or your child has epilepsy, a seizure disorder, or a heart condition, please check with your doctor before use. Do not operate heavy machinery after listening. Use of the heart-guided calm score requires a paired Apple Watch with heart-rate and health sharing enabled. The calm score is a relaxation-feedback indicator only. It is not a diagnosis, a fitness metric, or a measure of your health. Resyna does not monitor for, detect, or alert you to arrhythmias, heart conditions, or any other medical issue, and it should never be relied on for that purpose. If you have any health concern, contact a qualified medical professional.
