Resyna and Calm Tools

Before a Performance or Test in the corridor beforehand.

Your child has revised, they know the material, and in the ten minutes before the exam their body is behaving as though something dangerous is about to happen.

Free 7-day trial · No email or credit card to start · Built by an autism dad and a licensed SLP

Why it works here

Why a calm and focus tool helps with before a performance or test

Performance anxiety is largely physiological, which is why knowing the material does not switch it off. A short paced-breathing session in the minutes beforehand addresses the physiological half, which is the half that is currently in the way.

You will recognize this if

  • Your child knows the material and freezes anyway.
  • Physical symptoms appear in the hour before.
  • Reassurance about their ability changes nothing.
What the research says

A meta-analysis in Psychological Medicine found that training slow breathing produced a large reduction in self-reported stress and anxiety.

The setup

How to set it up for the minutes before a performance or test

Takes about five minutes. Use it as written, or keep only the steps your family needs. A short setup that gets used beats a complete one that gets abandoned in week two.

  1. 1 Use it in the ten minutes before, not the night before
  2. 2 Practice it for weeks beforehand so it is familiar under pressure
  3. 3 Keep it very short, three minutes or less
  4. 4 Pair it with a known physical routine, water and a walk
  5. 5 Ask the school whether it can be used just before the exam
  6. 6 Do not discuss the content of the exam while it runs
The mistake most families make

Using it for the first time on the day means deploying an unfamiliar tool under maximum pressure, which rarely helps and sometimes adds one more thing to manage.

In the app

Built into the routine, not bolted onto it.

The Resyna and Calm Tools lives inside the same routine your child already follows, so the minutes before a performance or test is a step with a visible length rather than a separate tool somebody has to remember to open.

  • Attach it to any step in any routine
  • Works for pre-readers, gestalt language processors, and AAC users
  • Same setup at home, at school, and in therapy

Common questions

About the minutes before a performance or test

Will the school allow this?
Many will if asked in advance, and it can be written into a plan as an accommodation. Asking on the day rarely works.
How far in advance should we practice?
Weeks. Familiarity is what makes a tool usable under pressure, and an unfamiliar one adds to the load.
What if anxiety is severe?
That warrants proper support rather than a wellness tool. Talk to the school counselor and your child's clinician.

Resyna and VizyPlan's Calming Frequency are wellness tools designed to support relaxation. They are not a medical device and are not medical advice. They do not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition, and they are not a substitute for care from a qualified professional. Start with just 2 to 5 minutes at a comfortable volume and build up gradually. If you feel any discomfort, dizziness, or unease, stop right away. If you are pregnant, or you or your child has epilepsy, a seizure disorder, or a heart condition, please check with your doctor before use. Do not operate heavy machinery after listening. Use of the heart-guided calm score requires a paired Apple Watch with heart-rate and health sharing enabled. The calm score is a relaxation-feedback indicator only. It is not a diagnosis, a fitness metric, or a measure of your health. Resyna does not monitor for, detect, or alert you to arrhythmias, heart conditions, or any other medical issue, and it should never be relied on for that purpose. If you have any health concern, contact a qualified medical professional.
